The 4,300-panel array is located in Georgetown, just north of the Georgetown/Lanesville Road exit on Interstate 64 and is capable of generating enough electricity to power about 150 homes annually. Harrison REMC worked alongside Hoosier Energy, the electric cooperative’s power supplier, to identify a prime location in the county for the array.
“As a cooperative, our focus is always local and I’m proud that Harrison REMC and Hoosier Energy have taken the lead in bringing utility scale solar and this clean energy resource to the Lanesville community and Harrison REMC members,” said David Lett, Chief Executive Officer of Harrison REMC, which serves 22,000 members.
“This location is the gateway to Harrison County and I think the solar farm will communicate a positive message about Harrison County and Lanesville,” Lett added.
The solar “farm” covers about 15 acres and consists of 4,320 solar panels. It is the third of 10 that Hoosier Energy is installing as part of the power supplier’s “all-of-the-above” energy strategy to provide its 18-member distribution systems with another energy source to further the cooperative commitment of affordability, reliability and community.
